the myth of King Arthur is very much alive. And all the descendents of the knights, known as Legendborn, are battling an influx of demons. But even though that battle has been fought for centuries, Bree finds herself endlessly trying to prove herself to a society of white men. Throughout the entirety of the book, all the way to the climax, Tracy Deonn paints a vivid picture of how the cycles of racism and sexism have harmed generations of Black women. I personally enjoyed the book because the way Deonn wonderfully created a realistic fantasy world, while also merging it with very real and scary problems in our own world, was really powerful and immersive.
